There's no commercial airline service in Big Bear itself, so most visitors and second-home owners fly into Ontario and drive up. Here's the lay of the land.
Big Bear City Airport is a public general-aviation airport for private and charter aircraft — no scheduled commercial airlines. Pilots love it for the mountain scenery and high-elevation approach; for most travelers it's not a commercial option.
LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) is the closest major commercial airport — roughly 63 miles and about an hour and 15 minutes from Big Bear via Highway 330. It's the practical choice for most fly-in visitors and out-of-area buyers.
San Bernardino International (SBD) is also close and growing. The larger Southern California airports — LAX, John Wayne/Orange County (SNA) and Palm Springs (PSP) — are farther (roughly two-plus hours) but offer more flights; many second-home owners weigh drive time against flight options.
